Pet Obedience Training: For Dogs

Having a pet can be a pleasant experience, but when you own a dog there is more to being a dog owner than cuddles and feeding time a dog needs discipline and constant attention in order to lead a happy and healthy life, which is why it is important that you should follow some pet obedience training for your dog, as early as possible when the dog is still young. But that doesn’t mean if you have an older dog that you cannot teach him pet obedience training, it just requires a little bit more patience and time.

Pet obedience training takes a lot of patience from you and one of the most important things that you must learn is that it is possible for you to teach your dog things that you want him to learn. Throughout his life, your dog continues to learn and you should learn to reward your dog when he is good that that he is more inclined to do what you want him to do in the future.

The first thing that you need to do when using pet obedience training is to pick a particular time of the day to do the training so that you and your dog get into a routine. Five to ten minutes each time at perhaps two or three times in a day should be more that enough time for you to teach your dog new tricks!

When you have a dog, there are all types of bad habits that they can pick up from peeing on the carpet, to destroying furniture and belongings, and if you have a dog with destructive behaviour then there are a few rules that you should follow to stop this kind of behaviour.

1  The first thing you can try is to put a ten foot rope on your dog and let him drag it around the house and if the dog decides to dash out of the front door, then before opening it you should step on the rope so that if your dog does decide to make a break for it, you will be able to pull him back in and he will in time learn that this is bad behaviour.

2  Try to have more than one collar for your dog. A buckle collar and a training collar so that you have one collar for your training sessions and a separate collar with the dogs ID tags on it for all other times.
